FAQ
To operate a BIB soda setup, you'll need:
- Soda dispenser (with post-mix capability)
- CO₂ tank and regulator
- Carbonator (to mix CO₂ and water)
- Syrup pumps to move the syrup from the BIBs
- Water filtration system for consistent taste and safety
- Syrup rack to neatly store and connect your BIBs
While it may seem like a lot, once set up, it’s a highly efficient and cost-effective system that can handle high drink volumes with minimal waste.
It depends on your setup and service style! Countertop models are great for small cafes or fast-casual spots, while freestanding units work well for high-volume self-service environments like quick-service restaurants. If you're doing a lot of drink combos, consider a multi-valve dispenser connected to a bag-in-box (BIB) system for multiple flavors. Your decision should factor in space, volume, and whether staff or customers will be using it.
A BIB system is a packaging method used to deliver soda syrup in a durable, sealed plastic bag stored inside a cardboard box. The syrup is pumped from the bag and mixed with carbonated water (in post-mix dispensers) at the point of service. This setup is popular because it’s cost-effective, easy to replace, and has a long shelf life. The system also reduces waste and takes up less storage space compared to bottled beverages.

Sip, Sell, & Repeat
Fountain drink dispensers are widely known in the foodservice industry as one of the most profitable equipment investments. According to industry averages, the cost to serve a 16 oz fountain drink—including syrup, cup, lid, straw, and CO₂—typically ranges between $0.25 to $0.40, while the average sale price ranges from $1.50 to $2.50, depending on your market. That means operators regularly see profit margins of 70% to 85% per cup. These drinks also pair easily with meals, increasing the average ticket value and encouraging combo purchases. In self-serve environments, like fast casual or convenience stores, they also reduce labor demands. The low cost per serving and high volume potential mean your dispenser can pay for itself quickly—often within months. Whether you offer free refills or upsell with flavor shots, the revenue from soft drinks is reliable, consistent, and scalable. For many foodservice businesses, soft drinks are a great revenue stream!
A Customer Magnet Soda Station
Studies show that self-service drink stations can increase beverage sales by 20% or more, particularly when paired with value meals or combo deals. Equip the station with essentials like cup dispensers, lid and straw holders, napkins, and trash bins to streamline the experience. Adding optional upsells—like a flavor shot machine or a small display fridge with premium bottled beverages—can further increase per-customer revenue. Visually, LED-lit dispensers and branded panels enhance perceived quality and attract attention. Cleanliness and organization are also key; messy stations deter users and hurt your brand image.
